EAST WEST AUTO PARTS INC.
TULSA, OKLAHOMA
HISTORY
Ken Freeman's grandfather was in the salvage business so Ken got a
chance to see how the business was run. When Ken decided to go into the salvage business
himself, he utilized that experience, but added his own special touches based on his commitment
to preserving the environment and the attractiveness of the local area. Everything possible is
recycled at East West, not just automobiles. Old pallets are ground into mulch for the
decorative shrubbery; the air conditioning is provided by the coolness of an underground
tunnel; recycled oil heats the building in cold weather; the yard is surrounded in front by a
beautiful recycled-brick wall. Rather than attempt to bring an old site up to today's
standards, Ken set up the yard and buildings and equipment before ever going out to stock up
the inventory, which is all computer controlled and tracked. The yard has been in business
since 1990 and now has a large array of General Motors cars and trucks, as well as Volvo,
Saab, Volkswagen and Opel vehicles and a scattering of other foreign and domestic models.
East West does business by mail-order and over the internet, rather than over-the-counter.
"Browsers" are not allowed in the yard, so the inventory agrees with the computer records and
the parts stay in good condition. East West continues to garner awards and appreciation for
its environmentally-friendly approach.
